About Us

Our Story
Every four years, when the World Cup rolls around, you'll find us proudly sporting Mexican national team jerseys and cheering on Memo Ochoa and the squad—it's a family tradition that speaks to our deep connection to Mexico. Carla and Sean were born and raised in San Miguel de Allende, and their hometown spirit shines throughout Cielo. The punched tin star lamps that light our space are handcrafted in San Miguel, and the framed Campeón poncho on our second floor is a cherished find from the city's artisan market.
Cielo also embraces its American side with a striking aluminum, patina-finished cloud sculpture created by Mt. Horeb’s SignArt team. And when the sun sets, our venue pulses with energy from Madison’s finest house and techno DJs, along with talent from beyond.
Our Philosophy
At Cielo, we celebrate the colorful fusion of Mexican roots and American creativity. Founded by Susan McKinney and co-owned by her daughters Carla and Sean Ortega, our space is a reflection of family, heritage, and a shared love for community and culture.

Our menu features nostalgic nods to childhood favorites like FritoLocos and DoriLocos—snacks that bring back memories of after-school adventures in San Miguel. These flavors are more than food; they’re stories on a plate.
